Director of Rural Operations

Chittenden County Transportation Authority (CCTA) has an exciting opportunity for an experienced transit manager to direct our rural operations, dba Green Mountain Transit Agency (GMTA). GMTA provides fixed route, deviated fixed route, and demand response service to a rural four county area in beautiful NW Vermont, including the state capital and service to Stowe and Sugarbush ski resorts.

The Director of Rural Operations is a senior staff position and is responsible for managing approximately 56 FTEs, providing 470,000 rides/year on approximately 60 buses. Duties include oversight and direction of the rural GMTA Operations department, including broker services and staff, in a four county service area. Responsibilities of this position include setting the vision of the rural operations through proactive outreach to member communities, by anticipating, forecasting, and responding to changes in the rural public transportation industry and within the agency.

The Director of Rural Operations prepares monthly reports for CCTA Board meetings; works collaboratively with other staff, managing bus driver labor relations, assists the Director of Finance with budget projections and tracking of monthly operations expenses, and works cooperatively with the urban side senior staff to address operational issues and improve CCTA & GMTA’s services.

  • Experience managing and empowering a team
  • Ability to self-motivate and capable of working independently
  • Experience with fixed route and deviated fixed route service
  • High level experience in rural transit a plus

CCTA offers all full time employees a competitive salary and amazing benefits; including 100% premium paid health benefits for employees and families, and generous paid time off.
Salary range is $70,000-$90,000 DOE

Operations Supervisor

Join our team of Operations Supervisors responsible for the daily field support and supervision of Bus Drivers at GMTA. Responsibilities include:

  • Providing support and assistance to Drivers and Customers and facilitating customer service in the Berlin, St Albans, and Mountain regions
  • Participating in training new Bus Drivers
  • Assisting with accident investigations

Some Saturday work is required. Other responsibilities include conducting on-board Driver evaluations, monitoring radio communications, and field/road observation. The ideal candidate will have a college degree , experience as a Driver, and supervisory experience. Other transportation or similar experience may be substituted. A CDL with passenger endorsement is required or the ability to obtain one with 90 days of the date of hire.

Full-time Bus Drivers

Green Mountain Transit Agency is looking for full-time Bus Drivers. Our Bus Drivers provide excellent customer service, have a great driving record and a positive team attitude. A clean CDL class-B license with appropriate endorsements is preferred. CCTA will train the ideal candidate to receive the necessary endorsements. 

Candidates must pass background checks, drug screening, and medical evaluation.

Seasonal and Part-time Year-round Bus Drivers (Berlin Location)

GMTA is looking for part-time bus drivers with excellent customer service skills, great driving record and a positive team attitude to join our team of seasonal drivers. Seasonal Drivers provide transportation for the Stowe and Sugarbush ski resorts. GMTA is also looking for part time year round CDL drivers at our Berlin location.

A Commercial Driver License (CDL) with passenger and air brake endorsements, a clean driving record, and the ability to pass standard background checks are also required. GMTA is willing to train the right candidates for their CDL.

Several positions are available mid-December through early April, up to 40hrs/week. Weekend availability is required. Hourly rate: $16.17 and free seasonal ski passes are available based on eligibility.

Part-time CDL Bus Drivers (St. Albans Location)

Part-time Bus Drivers improve GMTA’s ability to provide efficient and effective transportation to passengers by providing transportation to and from medical appointments. Ideal candidates will have a valid driver’s license, a good driving record, familiarity with driving in Vermont and excellent customer service skills. Applicants must be able to pass pre-employment background checks, the required DOT physical, and drug and alcohol tests. Please Contact our St. Albans office for more information: 802-752-2062.

A CDL is preferred but GMTA is willing to train the right candidates for their CDL B with appropriate endorsements. This is a unique opportunity for candidates who do not have a CDL, but possess great customer service skills and strong driving skills.
